Frequently Asked Questions – Product

What is the difference between a "system" ski and a "flat" ski?

  • A system ski has an interface pre-installed for a binding that is included with the ski. Click here for an example. Thus if you purchase say, a K2 Recon System Ski with Marker MX 12.0 Bindings 2010, you are purchasing a system or "integrated" ski in which the binding and ski come together. A Flat Ski is your traditional ski with no mounting brackets or interface for a system binding. Flat skis must be drilled in order to have bindings installed. It is important to note that no matter what, your purchase will require an installation of some kind followed by a release check by your local shop.

Can I choose what bindings I want to put on a system ski?

  • You cannot. Ski manufacturers will either partner with a binding company or produce their own bindings to create a system ski. You also cannot take bindings on your current skis and mount them on to a system ski-trust us, it does not work.

What is a "Flat Ski Package?" Are bindings included in this?

  • A Flat Ski Package is just that-a ski that is packaged with a binding. These are not system skis. Flat Skis (defined above) are paired with a binding that we think goes best with the ability level and skier type of customers that generally purchase the ski. Bindings are INCLUDED in the price of the package. This is by far the most popular way to purchase skis. Some Flat Ski Packages will have higher level bindings that you may choose from, in which case there will be a price difference based on how much more expensive that binding is.

I don't like the binding that comes in the ski package. Can I substitute in a better one?

  • You may substitute anything in that you would like, although it may change the price of the package. In the case of ski bindings, many Flat Ski Packages will have higher level performance bindings that you may choose from, in which case there will be a price difference based on how much more expensive that binding is. If there is a particular binding you are interested in that is not listed in the drop down menu, please call a customer service representative toll-free at 1-877-861-0777 to discuss your options.

Do you mount ski bindings?

  • As a service to you, we are happy to mount bindings to skis purchased from Aspen Ski and Board free of charge. Please note however that without your boots physically present we cannot perform a release check which is required before you use the equipment. Please read our terms of service agreement for specific information regarding binding safety and release of liability. You must agree to all terms to have bindings mounted. It is required that you take your equipment into a certified shop to have a release check performed. If you purchase boots along with your skis and bindings, and also provide your weight, height, age, and skier type, we have all the necessary items we need to perform an indemnified installation and release check and are happy to install and perform a release check for you! If you have any questions about this policy, feel free to call us toll-free at 1-877-861-0777 or email us at info@aspenskiandboard.com

Some products don't have a price on them and won't let me purchase! What gives?!

  • Rest easy! So that we may provide you the lowest possible prices, some products on the site will say "call for price". All you need to do is e-mail us at info@aspenskiandboard.com with the product you're after or give us a call toll-free at 1-877-861-0777 and we'll be happy to give you the latest price and help you finish your purchase.

Is this item new? Is it a demo?

  • We don't sell used items at Aspenskiandboard.com. We're authorized dealers of all the brands we carry and we proudly represent them in their newest and unused form. Please be aware that many competing sites sell demo or used equipment at prices that are comparable to Aspen Ski and Board's new equipment prices.

Is this item available at one of your locations?

  • Yes. Any item you see listed on our website will be available in at least one store as well. We work very hard to keep our inventory updated. However, there is always the slight chance that the item can sell out so please Contact Us at either of our two locations to make sure we have the item in stock.

Can I choose the base color/top sheet of my snowboard?

  • The first question you need to ask yourself is, does the snowboard you want come in different colors for the same size? If it does, then yes-you will have the ability to choose the top sheet of your choice, and it will be right there on the drop down menu. If a color is not there that means we have SOLD OUT of that top sheet color. Base colors on boards are usually based on size (i.e. a 156cm board has the pink base and the 159cm has the purple base) in which case the question of choice has already been decided by the manufacturer. Top sheets can come with several base options however we cannot control which ones we receive and may not be able to provide the base color you prefer due to availability.
