FAQs

Q: How does the Comp compare to the Contour?

A: Both are flagship goggles with toric VIVID ZEISS lenses, EVAK venting, and magnetic lens swaps. The Comp's SNAPSHOT system is Giro's fastest lens-change mechanism and feels more secure during hard riding, and the included travel case adds value for riders who store goggles between trips. The Contour saves about $40 and delivers nearly identical optical performance.

Q: Is the travel case actually useful?

A: Yes, especially for riders who fly with goggles or pack them in a ski bag. The EVA molded case protects the lens from scratches and crushing better than a fabric sleeve, and the rigid shape stays organized in a packed bag.

Q: Do the magnets hold up over time?

A: The SNAPSHOT system uses magnets for alignment and mechanical latches for the actual lock, so the seal doesn't degrade as magnets wear. The mechanical latches are rated for the lifetime of the goggle.

Goggle Lens Guide

Choosing the Right Lens Tint

Lens tint is measured by VLT % (Visible Light Transmission). Higher VLT = brighter lens = better for low light and night skiing. Lower VLT = darker lens = better for bright sunny days.

VLT 60-90%. Clear or light tint. Best for night skiing, cloudy days, and ski club.

VLT 25-50%. Medium tint. All-purpose, works in most conditions.

VLT 5-20%. Dark or mirrored. Best for bright sun and high-altitude bluebird days.

Spherical vs. Cylindrical Lenses

Spherical lenses curve in two directions - better peripheral vision and less glare. Cylindrical lenses curve in one direction and are typically found on more affordable goggles. Both work well; spherical is an upgrade in clarity.

Helmet Compatibility

Most modern goggles from Smith, Oakley, and Giro are designed to fit seamlessly with helmets from the same brand. Our staff can help you pair them. Shop helmets.
