The Spur uses the same In-Mold construction, In Form Fit System, and Vertical Tuning as Giro's adult helmets, sized for youth XS, S, and M heads. MIPS adds rotational impact protection, Super Cool vents handle temperature control, and the clean profile pairs with Giro youth goggles for a polished setup.

Key Features

  • MIPS Brain Protection System redirects rotational impact forces
  • In-Mold construction for a lightweight feel sized for kids
  • In Form Fit System with Vertical Tuning for growing kids
  • Super Cool vents handle temperature control
  • Compatible with the full Giro youth goggle lineup

FAQs

Q: Does my kid actually need MIPS?

A: MIPS protects against the rotational impacts that cause most concussions, regardless of age. Kids and teens take more angled falls than adults because they're still developing balance and risk awareness, so the protection upgrade is especially worth it for young riders.

Q: How does the Spur compare to the Crue?

A: Both are kids MIPS helmets at the same price. The Spur uses lighter In-Mold construction (closer to Giro's adult lineup) and is built for more athletic riders. The Crue uses a hardshell construction that's more durable for kids who are harder on gear. Pick the Spur for fit and feel, the Crue for durability.

Q: Is this covered by the Junior Trade-In Program?

A: Yes, kids helmets are part of the Junior Trade-In Program along with skis, snowboards, ski boots, snowboard boots, and bindings. Bring it back when your kid outgrows it for trade-in credit toward their next helmet.

Helmet Safety & Sizing

How to Measure Your Head

Using a soft tape measure, wrap it around your head about 1 inch above your eyebrows. That measurement in centimeters is your helmet size. Most helmets run in S/M/L/XL with size ranges printed on the box. If you're between sizes, size up and use the fit dial to snug it down.

MIPS Technology

MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) is a low-friction layer inside the helmet that allows the helmet to rotate slightly on impact, reducing rotational forces on the brain. We recommend MIPS for most skiers and snowboarders - it's especially valuable for kids and those who take big falls.
